That question is a bit nuanced but the short answer is, possibly. The state deadline for Form 1099-MISC is similar to the Internal Revenue Service’s deadline. File your 1099-MISC forms on the next business day if the deadline lands on a weekend. Check beforehand whether you work in a state that requires you to file them at all.
Alabama requires businesses to file if you withhold Alabama income tax and states like Georgia require you to file Form 1099-MISC if you withhold state taxes. States like Maine outright require you to file the forms and the State of New Jersey requires filing if you made any payments of $1,000 or more. States including New York and Alaska do not require any 1099-MISC reporting directly to them. Figure out where you need to file 1099-MISC by reviewing a state’s Department of Revenue or similar website.
