IRS mailing addresses are not hard to find. Generally speaking, you can get the address from the form instructions. Still, you may have had the blank filing forms for weeks or months, while misplacing the original instructions. You may have an unusual filing situation, or you may live in an odd location. Indeed, there are a few wrinkles you should look out for along the way. Some filing forms, for example, are supposed to have a different delivery route code for the last four digits of the ZIP when using “certified mail” to file.
As an industry-leading software provider for small businesses and accounting professionals, Advanced Micro Solutions (AMS) wanted to help our clients quickly find the right IRS mailing addresses for their business. We also wanted to help shed some light on those extra wrinkles that can apply to certain forms.

Mailing Address for Form 1099-MISC and Other Information Returns
Form 1099-MISC is the most common Information Return that sends employers and accountants looking for the relevant mailing address, but any 1099 form—as well as other Information Returns including Forms 1096, 1097, 1098, 3921, 5498, and W-2G—goes to the mailing address designated for your state. There are only two mailing addresses for Form 1099-MISC. One is in Austin, TX. The other one is in Kansas City. You can quickly find the correct address for your filing in Section D of the General Instructions.
Mailing Address for Form W-2
The mailing address for Form W-2 is the easiest one of all. Send these forms to:
Social Security Administration
Direct Operations Center

On the other hand, you may still want to consult the Instructions for Form W-2. Sending these forms by certified mail? Change the ZIP to 18769-0002. Using a private delivery service? You’ll want to change the ZIP to 18702-7997 and add this information, “Attn: W-2 Process, 150 E. Mountain Dr.”
IRS Mailing Addresses for Income Tax Returns
AMS software is designed for employer-based payroll and filing forms, but we don’t mind offering basic information resources for corporate and individual tax returns. It’s also worth pointing out that we do offer software support for Form 1040 Schedule H for households that employ domestic workers. Schedule H for these household employees is to be attached and mailed to the same address as the rest of your 1040 filing:
Where to File Form 7004
Form 7004 is a tax extension application for businesses. You cannot e-file the tax extension request for certain forms, including Form 8612, 8613, 8725, 8831, 8876, and/or 706-GS(D), so it may be important to have the relevant mailing address on hand. Plus, if you’re requesting a filing extension, you’ll likely be short on time, anyway. Iterations of Form 7004 require different mailing addresses, which you can find at the IRS’s website.
Where to File Form SS-4
When you’re starting a new business, Form SS-4 is among the most important you’ll complete. This form is used to apply for an employer identification number, also known as an EIN. This 9-digit number is assigned to employers for tax filing and reporting purposes; if you haven’t secured your EIN, you cannot yet function as a business. If your business is located in the United States, the address is simple:
Internal Revenue Service
Attn: EIN Operation
Cincinnati, OH 45999
Fax: (855)641-6935
If you have no legal residence, principal place of business, or principal office in any state, the address is the same, but the Attn is addressed to EIN International Operation.
